Level 3
Children are taught the classical technique of ballet in a fun atmosphere of encouragement. Emphasis is on correct body placement and developing a love for ballet and dance in general.
Classes at this level are similar to Pre-Ballet classes, but emphasize more ballet technique and structure, and introduce the children to ballet barre work.
Expectation that students retain class corrections and show constant daily improvement. Usually there are two years of level 3 to accomplish the material listed below.
Class objective:
• To develop technical and artistic achievements
• Steps executed at 45 and 90 degrees
• Use of demi pointe in some exercises (i.e. developpé, frappé, grand battements)
• Finalizing fifth position
• More port de bras and various uses of head at the barre and center and jump combinations
• Complete all nine directions of the body positions
• Use of Arabesque
• Faster tempos
• Music: must hear more than beat – respond to rhythm and recognize melodic line; Ability to coordinate the musical phrase
