Level 2
Children are taught the classical technique of ballet in a fun atmosphere of encouragement. Emphasis is on correct body placement and developing a love for ballet and dance in general.
Classes at this level are similar to Pre-Ballet classes, but emphasize more ballet technique and structure, and introduce the children to ballet barre work.
Below are the accomplishments required by the end of level 2, in addition to executing the given steps. However, in more complex exercises, the emphasis is placed on moving well, attack, intensity, speed, and coordination of movement.
• Establishment of straight, aligned posture
• Control over not rolling the foot in while standing turned out. Straight alignment of the foot in all aspects of movement
• Maintaining and getting to a fully straight leg in all positions, and while moving in and out of them
• With all the previous points accomplished and maintained, the child must use turnout to their own maximum capability.
• Development of port de bras
• Proper placement of basic arm positions and hand positions
• Moving through port de bras with correct alignment of arms
• Coordination of breath with arm movements
• Using head positions with movement in certain exercises
• Understanding and applying different qualities of movement to ballet steps
• Can coordinate arms nicely with different speeds of movement
• Differentiate between petite and grand allegro, and have the strength, speed, and attack, to execute each accordingly
• Can move well through space and follow simple patterns and spacing requirements.
• Can recognize and execute ballet steps to a polonaise, 6-count rhythms and familiar with using steps with different accents
• Be able to keep consistent focus for the whole length of class and be able to respond well to training and assimilate Corrections
• Have knowledge of the French terms of learned steps
• Be able to relax and maintain a pleasant expression while dancing
